On Wednesday October 5th 2022 the PLUCKY CLASS OF 1977 was hit by the news that their classmate - one who was very much a VIBRANT participant in their class activities and whose SISTER was also a member of the same class, had passed on, SUDDENLY, in DOUALA.
She - Ms. ADELAIDE BIH NJU was laid to rest on Friday November 4th 2022 in BAMENDA.
This somber background would explain why, 6 DAYS after that, when November 10th 2022 dawned, marking the beginning of the Class's ANNUAL CONVENTION which had already been scheduled for the 10th through the 12th of November, the usually BUOYANT Class held an uncharacteristically subdued yet very WELL ATTENDED, (counted more than 30 members - excluding the ZOOM attendees), and PRODUCTIVE Convention.
Justice BEATRICE NAMBANGI's summary below captures all the essentials, and once more portrays how EXCEPTIONAL, EXEMPLARY and COMMENDABLE this particular set of WOMEN just are. TAKE A READ:
"The dates were 10th to 12th of November 2020...it was that time of the year again for the annual plucky convention.
This year it was hosted by the SAWA PLUCKYS in DOUALA at Black Homes Apartments in Bonaberi (coincidentally belonging to a carat)
On Thursday the 10th of November Pluckys from Cameroon and out of the country, arrived Douala to a grand start of the convention. The noise and joy that accompanied each new arrival was deafening.
With the building draped in plucky billboards and almanac, the convention kicked off with the 'cry die' of ADELAIDE BIH NJU of blessed memory. It was a night of scripture reading, prayers , exhortation, praise songs and even lighthearted jokes about the deceased. There was also a candle lighting ceremony for her and all other Pluckys who had passed on to eternity.
The "cry die' ceremony was attended by Pluckys all over the world via zoom. The ceremony ended in a celebration of her life as Pluckys danced for most of the night to a musician playing gospel songs.
Friday was dedicated to a tour of Douala. Pluckys were guests at the Port Autonome de Douala, given a guided tour of the facilities, and gifts by management even down to snacks.
A very noisy bus of spontaneous singing and dancing of "Nchemty " while savoring some crunchy amuse guele ( amiss girl) provided by ports authority.
Lunch was in true Douala fashion, eating roast fish by the seaside. The tour ended with shopping at a mall.
Saturday was the AGM proper. Again other Pluckys around the world adorned their plucky global apparel and attended the meeting via zoom.
The meeting became very emotional as gifts in true plucky fashion began popping out of bags for the ladies from other pluckys..geles from Lagos.., gifts from the sawa pluckys themselves to all who attended. Too many gifts to mention but two worthy of mention was the wrapper gifted to each plucky by Dr Florence Nju Fongang from Yemen , junior sister to the late Adelaide ( herself a plucky)on behalf of her late sister and as appreciation to the Pluckys for their deep participation in the funeral. You may want to know that the Pluckys printed their own booklet of eulogies for the funeral.
Finally the icing on the cake was Joan Mancho Mambo from Houston Texas who decided to gift every Plucky mom alive with a beautiful piece of wax wrapper. It was awesome.
The meeting ended at 3pm Saturday, but the "liquidation" continued on Sunday with the SAWA PLUCKYS."
BRAVO, Dear UNSTOPABLE Pluckys!
OBOSO!
We cannot wait for the 2023 EDITION!!!
