Presidential Decree No. 2018/385 signed yesterday, Monday July 2nd 2018 appointed Dr./Prof. HENRY NAMME LUMA, DIRECTOR GENERAL of DOUALA's Reference Hospital.
The news was received with great joy not just because he happens to be:
- The husband of ExSSA's President General, Justice Mrs. Betty Muambo Luma ('76);
- The father of Mrs. Joso Luma Emuobo Evbiruvbe (2001); and
- The brother of Late Janet Eli Luma ('79) - amongst other extended SAKER credentials,
but also because it is, on and by every possible account a WHAT-TOOK-THEM-SO-LONG, WELL-DESERVED and MERITED appointment of someone who is unarguably an Intelligent, Competent, Compassionate and Ethically Adroit Medical Doctor, PERIOD! We couldn't be any prouder or more overjoyed.
KUDOS, Sir & GODSPEED as you strive to carry out the duties entrusted into your care!!!

VETERAN EDUCATOR & SCHOOL ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
CLASS OF 1978's GWEN NKWANYUO
CELEBRATED BY HER FACULTY
It's a job that many believe just about anyone can do. Many get into it for precisely that reason, seeking to make an "easy paycheck" and, as an enviable bonus, enjoy Easter (Spring), Christmas (Winter) and Long (Summer) Vacations. For others, it is a simple "passe-temps" to engage in, while waiting for a FAR BETTER opportunity to come along. And then for some others, TEACHING IS A CALLING; as REAL and TRUE a calling as ... the PRIESTHOOD, I daresay! Those teachers who fall in this last category, are the ones who STAY in it, despite its challenges, especially in countries like the U.S. of A. where the remuneration is nothing to write home about, as in, A DISGRACE!

The BRYN MAWR SCHOOL is an independent, nonsectarian all-girls school for grades K-12, with a coed preschool, which, founded in 1885, is one of the oldest college-preparatory schools for girls in the United States.
Now, if you were to go to the School's Website and look through the TABLE OF CONTENTS of the MOST CURRENT ISSUE of their ONLINE publication, (May-June), you will see a TAB that says "FACULTY IN ACTION" and the picture that goes along with it is that of CLASS OF 1978's Ms GWEN NKWANYUO who, actually has been serving as THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR of the institution's "LITTLE SCHOOL", since 2004.

She was interviewed and I would say, it's pretty clear from her responses to the first two questions she was asked, just what category of TEACHERS she falls into.
Here's how that interview started off:
You’ve been working in early childhood education for more than 30 years, 29 of those years at Bryn Mawr, did you always know this is what you wanted to do?

I had other ideas for my career, such as a diplomat, lawyer, or magistrate...Before coming the the U.S., I graduated from Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Upon returning home to Cameroon, I needed to be employed while I sat for the entrance exams into the professional institutions for each of the potential career paths. So, I taught four-year-olds in a nursery school. Once I stepped into that classroom, I knew I had found my calling. I stayed there for four years and finalized plans to get a master's in early childhood education in London. My brother, who lives in Baltimore, said Towson University had the best early childhood department you can find, so I applied.

Why do you like working at Bryn Mawr's Little School?

Bryn Mawr felt like home for me from the first day. I have grown up here, so to speak. It has provided a place for me to become my true self - a mentor, a teacher, a leader, a life-long learner and a part of a great family called the Little School. My five years of secondary school was at an all-girls boarding school called Saker Baptist College in Cameroon. So many aspects of Bryn Mawr remind me of my school days -the choral groups, assemblies, sisterhood and the traditions, as well as high expectations for excellence and the confident women who are products of both institutions.

Want to read ALL of the interview???
That's exactly what I suspected!!!
Just go ahead and CLICK on the IMAGE BELOW and get it all from the BRYN MAWR horse's mouth:

2020 LIMBE WOMEN'S LEISURE GAMES @ THE SAKERETTE-OWNED
ALCEF RIVIERA AMUSEMENT PARK IN MILE 4 LIMBE
(Saturday, March 7th 2020)
If it had been the set date for this "ALCEF WOMEN'S OLYMPICS" hAD BEEN April 1st, I am sure it would have been taken for an APRIL FOOL'S prank! A contest featuring - not the almighty soccer or the "respectable" basketball but things like TABALA, SIZO, and DODGING, with a whole
Fako Divisional Delegate for Women's Empowerment as a contestant for the "SEVEN-SEVEN" tournament???

Well, Saturday March 7th 2020 came and went, and here's what the CEO and PROPRIETRESS of ALCEF PARK, Class of 1974's Ms EBOB MBIWAN TANYI had to say when it was all said and done:
"From the setting up of the Park, to visiting the exhibition stands, to the games themselves and then the trophy awards, the ALCEF band in attendance all through ... we think it's safe to say it was an altogether memorable day; glory halellujah!"

One of the SAKERETTE contestants also made the following remarks:

I am very proud to say out of five participants in the swimming competition, I was first from the bottom.I am actually very proud of myself for going the full two laps. 😎
Chai! I was still getting out of the pool when the first person almost met me. ...
Well done to Ebob Mbiwan Tanyi and George Mbella for organising such a wonderful event which took us back down the nostalgic corridors of our childhood! ... Such events are really important. I encourage us to come with our kids to relearn all these games we played in our youth."

Have to echo her THANKS to "MAMMY ALCEF" and "MOLA INVEST IN LIMBE" - and all the SPONSORS, for making it all happen!
As for the CONTESTANTS - Winners and "LAST COCOs", we say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Her name is CHELSEA!
And, YES, that's a CUTE name, BUT with no offense meant to BILL & HILLARY CLINTON who chose to give their only child that name, or even to the Premier League English Football Club that also bears the same name, it is the LAST NAME (or should I say SURNAME) of this particular version of "CHELSEA" that catapults her to the very TOP in my (SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE) book!

Her last name is "TAYUI", as in ...
- The GRANDDAUGHTER of our one and only "BABA" (LATE Mr. WILLIAM NSO TAYUI), First Black/Cameroonian and Longest Serving PRINCIPAL of Saker Baptist College and his beloved Wife "MAMI BABA" (LATE Mrs. CLARA TAYUI), and

- The DAUGHTER of erstwhile S.B.C. TUTOR, Dr. EBENEZER TAYUI and his SAKERETTE WIFE for over 3 decades, CLASS OF 1981's BEATRICE MENSAH TAYUI, which of course, also makes her ...

- The GRANDDAUGHTER of the LATE JUSTICE EMMANUEL KOFI-JONES MENSAH!

To be candid though, those credentials ALONE, distinguished as they are, would simply not suffice or constitute enough reason for me or anyone else, to ask you to ENTHUSIASTICALLY support her bid to become the next MISS UNIVERSE - GHANA, and subsequently, MISS UNIVERSE!
In fact, not even ...
- HER AWESOME BEAUTY & CHARM; or
- HER FIGURE; or
- HER DEFT TENNIS & PIANO PLAYING SKILLS; or
- HER ACCOMPLISHED BALLERINA TWIRLS; or
- HER ELOQUENCE: or
- HER ACADEMIC PROWESS (to mention just these), would be adequate!

It is her HEART; the COMPASSION she has for the less fortunate; the DETERMINATION she has to try to make the world a better place that is really IT!
That, actually, is what got her Volunteering in Nursing Homes and Teaching Sunday School in CHICAGO and compelled her to take a Gap Year in the midst of her College (University)  Academic pursuits, and use it to volunteer her assistance in Orphanages in Ghana and help bring clean drinking water to women and children in impoverished villages there, as well as collect food and back-to-school items for the women and children in the villages in the Volta region.

CHELSEA TAYUI CROWNED
MISS UNIVERSE GHANA!!!
Saturday, September 26th 2020
Finally, Ghana has welcomed a new queen. 25 year old Chelsea Tayui is Miss Universe Ghana 2020.
She was crowned in a private ceremony held at the Labadi Beach Hotel and broadcast on Joy Prime TV on Saturday, September 26th 2020.
She will represent Ghana at the international Miss Universe pageant slated for early next year. Congratulations to our new queen!

Close to 30 members of the GRADUATING CLASS OF 2007/2009 converged in LIMBE from the 15th to the 17th of OCTOBER for their Annual General Meeting which was highlighted by:
- an EXCURSION TO THE OCEAN-SIDE CLIFFS of BOTA ISLAND, (Don't watch the VIDEO if you are scared of heights, as in, I heard the Tour Guide tell one fear-fear, no dey hear 12 geh to "don't look back"!!!),

- TONS of SINGING, LAUGHTER, CAMARADERIE & FOOD (talk about a BEAUTIFUL CAKE and mouth-drooling BURNING FISH which provoked a very appropriate and gusty rendition of "SOME HAVE FOOD BUT CANNOT EAT" LOOOOL!!!), and, OF COURSE,

- A PILGRIMAGE TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN FOR THEM 19 YEARS AGO: SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE!!! (Cam an' see SEKELEH FOR JESUS ON THE CHAPEL STAGE!!! MANYAKA!!!)

KNOW WHAT? We've had A LOT of gloom and doom news lately; In fact, we still do! ALL THE MORE REASON why seeing these PRETTY, YOUNG & WELL ADJUSTED SAKERETTES take out time to get together and have some GOOD, CLEAN & HEALTHY FUN is so very REFRESHING!!!
