REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE GONE ON AHEAD ...
Friday, March 8th 2024 - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY started off on a very dour and somber note, with news of the passing of GENERAL Mrs. MARIE ETENGENENG KWAMU-NANA nee ABUNAW (Rtd.) in BUEA, after a protracted illness.

In addition to being the PIONEER FEMALE ADMINISTRATOR GENERAL OF PRISONS, PIONEER FEMALE COMMANDANT of the NATIONAL ADVANCED SCHOOL OF PENITENTIARY ADMINISTRATION (ENAP), she also served as INSPECTOR GENERAL in the MINISTRY OF JUSTICE in charge of Penitentiary Administration.

The Human Rights Advocate, Promoter of Women's Rights, and Inspirational Speaker was the FOUNDER, CHAIR and CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO) OF THE EQUITY & JUSTICE PRISON FELLOWSHIP, CAMEROON, a Non-Profit organization she established after her 30 plus years of service in Cameroon's Penitentiary Services, to advocate for a RESTORATIVE approach to Justice, Proportional Punishment, a Constructive and Reformative Prison Culture and Giving Prisoners a second chance.

This Wife, Mother-Of-Seven, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, etc. who was a holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration from the University of BENIN and a Post Graduate Degree from the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM), Yaounde, passed away at the age of 71 leaving behind not just her immediate and extended family to mourn her passing, but a host of others - Male and Female alike, for whom she was such a MENTOR, a BENEFACTOR and such an INSPIRATION!

The sheer PRIDE some of us felt each time we were privileged to see or be in the presence of this SMILING, WARM, DYNAMIC, INTELLIGENT, FASHION-KEEN & SAVVY, BESONGABANG AUNTY/BIG SISTER that "AUNTY MARIE" was, is something that we will always cherish.
Something that will keep INSPIRING us to be the very best version of ourselves, as we also strive to leave our own imprints on the sands of time.

WE SALUTE YOU, "MADAME GENERAL"!
REST IN PEACE.

Barrister Mrs. MIRIAM NGUNJO SHALO WELEDJI
CAMEROON'S FIRST FEMALE LAWYER TO BE CALLED TO THE BAR
SUNRISE: 13th December 1937  ~  SUNSET: Monday, 11th March 2024
The death was reported, last Monday, March 11th 2024, of 87 year-old Barrister Mrs. Miriam Ngunjo Shalo Weledji, fondly known as "Mami Weledji".

Her demise leaves quite a gaping vacuum, given that she was the first Cameroonian female lawyer to be called to the Cameroon Bar on whose current roll she is listed second.

Born on December 13th 1937 in Bamenda, she attended the Convent School Soppo, Buea from 1944 to 1952 and had the First School Leaving Certificate. From 1952 to 1955, she attended the Holy Rosary College, Enugu where she obtained Teachers Grade II certificate. In June 1958 she had her General Certificate of Education (O.L) and in June 1960 she had her General Certificate of Education (A.L).

From 1965 to 1966, Mrs Weledji attended the University of Oxford and graduated with a Diploma in Administration.
From 1966 to June 1968, she attended the Holborn College of law in London and received an L.L.B with 2nd Class Honors in June 1968.
From 1968 – 1969, she attended the University College London. In October 1968, she became a Barrister-at-Law and an Honorable member of the Grays Inn.

After returning to Cameroon, Mrs Weledji got enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the West Cameroon Supreme Court on June 9th 1969 and founded the Ngede Law Firm in Limbe which she headed up to her demise.

Mami Weledji was President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Cameroon from 1994-2000 and The Federation honored her with the title of FIDA Cameroon Honorary Life President.

The Mother of 6 that she was also known, (arguably more popularly), within LIMBE circles especially, as a Businesswoman, given that she was the owner of the well-known HOLIDAY INN which, when it came into existence was one of relatively few upscale hotels in the town.

She really was a TRAILBLAZER, PIONEER and PACE-SETTER in many respects, for Cameroonian Women particularly and for that we SALUTE HER!

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
Ms. ZURIEL-ALICE NGOME
("CARAT")
SUNRISE: May 6th 2003 ~ SUNSET: Saturday, March 16th 2024
Most of us got the marrow-chilling, devastating news on Sunday, March 17th 2024.

We learned, to our utter dismay, that a fatal, multi-car crash had brutally claimed the life of ZURIEL-ALICE EMAMBO NGOME, (fondly called "EMA"), the BEAUTIFUL, YOUNG and SMART Daughter of CLASS OF 1987's JUDITH EBWE NGOME and of Chief WALTER NGOME who had made the Dean's List at Georgia State University and was aspiring to become a lawyer.

The ghastly crash occurred on a DEKALB County - State of GEORGIA highway, on Saturday, March 16th 2024, less than 2 months shy of EMA's 21st birthday!

WHAT EXACTLY does one say to a MOTHER like JUDITH who wakes up to such a nightmare?
WHAT WORDS can one borrow or coin to express one's sympathy?

Totally bereft of words, one can only PRAY for Divine Solace for her and for her FAMILY as a whole, particularly EMA's:

SAKERETTE AUNTIES:
- FLORENCE EBWE (Class of 1983),
- VIVIAN EBWE ALOBWEDE (Class of 1988),
- THERRA EBWE WEINBERG (Class of 1992/94), and
- LINDA EBWE WILLIAMS (Class of 1995/97)

SAKERETTE COUSINS:
- ELENA ARREY (Class of 1998/2000),
- YOLANDA ARREY CHRISTENSEN (Class of 2000/2002),
- PETRA ARREY ZAMORA (Class of 2001/2003),

these 3 being the Daughters of erstwhile S.B.C. TUTOR, SESEKOU BARRACHEL ARREY, to whom we also extend our heartfelt condolences, and

RYNA EBWE (Class of 2016, Daughter of Therra).

The VIEWING has been planned for FRIDAY, APRIL 26th and the BURIAL for SATURDAY, APRIL 27th 2024.
