Even if you have been living under Abuja's ASO Rock for the past few months and weeks, there still isn't any way you could have missed the uproar that erupted following the very unfortunate deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York.
Well, Mrs. Dolly Lyonga Lambe found her own unique way to give vent to her frustrations, and she did so significantly enough for SILICON AFRICA to take notice and PUBLISH what she wrote!! Please find below the POEM she wrote:

CRY FERGUSON

And there was the verdict
NO CHARGES against him
Free to go, Free to live
The crowd roars in discontent
While he lay dead in the grave

Another black life, worthless
As his lifeless body laid in the street
Like a road kill from a passing car
The crowd rages in anger
But yet, they found him NOT GUILTY

A young black life ended
Goals and aspirations ended
And as his world watched
With tears flowing down their faces
The crowd remembers that day in rage

Many others gone before
Way too soon in similar fashion
The anger is overwhelming
For nothing wrong was found of him
But a life taken, lays in the grave, silent

Another opportunity cut short
For the worthlessness of his life
Was echoed by the verdict of eleven
Yet, they say “jury of his peers”
But there were only three

Buildings burned, smoke filled the air
Rocks thrown, cars set ablaze
Windows crashed, water spewed
Tensions run high, calm was called
For a worthless life, silent in the grave

Jury of eleven, but only three
With a passing vote of nine
Who could not feel the pain
For they have not… the history
And yet they called it “jury of his peers”

For his life was worthless
And was vehemently made clear
On this cold winter evening
Why, oh why; Was it because of his race?
Or his social status in our “free” society?

As Administrator of the Community Education Centre, Bonduma, Buea, Ms Esther Ashu's vision, this year, is to empower women and youths with entrepreneurial skills. Consequently, she organized a series of workshops from Tuesday March 19th 2019 that taught participants to produce their own solid, liquid, powdered soaps, various types of cosmetics, detergents, food items like vinegar, spaghetti, tomato paste, etc, medicinal products like balm, Mentholatum, etc.
They offered coaching on techniques of packaging and marketing.  Their goal is to demystify the production of these products and empower Cameroonians, so they can become entrepreneurs rather than lifetime consumers.

Participants learned how to produce industry standard Dettol disinfectant, insecticide, bleach, glass and carpet cleaner, powdered soap, vinegar, eau de cologne, perfume, etc. They also learned how to produce Vaseline, balms, spaghetti, apple cider vinegar and lots more. The workshop was open even to one day participants and it ended on Saturday March 23rd. The next phase of this training will focus on packaging and marketing.

Esther gave an interview to Equinoxe TV a couple of weeks ago as the guest on their news hour.

The weekend of Friday, April 5th to Sunday, April 7th 2019 was certainly a very memorable one for the CLASS OF 1982, as they held their Annual Meetings simultaneously, in HOUSTON - TEXAS and in DOUALA - CAMEROON respectively, using the opportunity to launch their brand new uniform on both Continents!
Well-deserved KUDOS to this AMAZING group of women whose genuine care and concern for each other is so REFRESHING and HEARTWARMING to observe.
A SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE TRADITION!
"DOUALA TOUR"!
Once an institution is founded and starts to exist - and grow, certain "WAYS OF DOING THINGS" start to establish themselves - or be established, and once they persist and continue over a period of time, they become "TRADITIONS".
This is true of INSTITUTIONS of learning; BOARDING Schools, most especially, simply because of the amount of uninterrupted time boarding school students spend on Campus.
A boarding school like SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE which has been in existence for OVER HALF A CENTURY, (it was founded in 1962), is therefore sure to have its own TRADITIONS, some (VARIATIONS) of which are still in effect TODAY, while some others have ceased to exist, for various reasons.
Some ceased to exist simply because whoever had instituted or sponsored them left the school, passed on or lost interest, etc., (THE ANNA FORBANG AWARD, for example). Others ended abruptly or died off as FUNDING and/or other LOGISTICS became unavailable or impractical ("PICTURE DAY", "PLAITING DAY", for example) , while others actually got "cancelled" due to issues that arose from their implementation ("CUTTING TAIL", "MOTHER-DAUGHTER TEA for example).

So it is that, depending on what ERA you were a student at SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE, you may or may NOT have even heard of certain "TRADITIONS", talk less of knowing what they're all about!
One S.B.C. TRADITION that I doubt still exists today is the "DOUALA TOUR" which existed throughout the 5 years I was a student at SBC. We couldn't wait till we got to FORM 4, so we could get on a bus and go "sightseeing" and BOULANGERIE ZEPOL PASTRY & BAGUETTE-BUYING in DOUALA!
It is only in 2013 that I found out from PIONEER MA MARY AUGUSTINE MANGA that the practice had started in 1966, in their LAST YEAR at SBC!

Needless to say, some of these S.B.C. "CUSTOMS & TRADITIONS" can only be discussed or mentioned in WRITING because they were not archived or documented in PICTURE form.
THANKFULLY, there are some PICTURES that have, over the years been so KINDLY & GRACIOUSLY submitted to SakerPride, (especially in its first year of existence - 2012/2013), that make it possible to "ILLUSTRATE" some of the cherished - or despised TRADITIONS, for the EDIFICATION of those who were not aware of their existence and for the "NOSTALGIC PLEASURE of those who EXPERIENCED them!!!

ENJOY!!!!

On SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd came around, in strict keeping with the "CHRISTIAN DAMSELS" epithet which THE LATE PA EYAMBE had conferred upon us, SAKER GIRLS, back in those MIZPAH BAPTIST CHURCH days of the LATE 70s, The PLUCKYS visited MOWBRAY BAPTIST CHURCH (MBC).

I took the liberty of checking out that Church online and here's some of what it has to say about itself:

"We are a multi-national, multi-cultural church in Cape Town, South Africa. As Mowbray is a cosmopolitan area, close to the University of Cape Town, Medical School, and Cape Town University of Technology campuses, we have members and adherents from many different countries in sub-Saharan Africa as well as the rest of the world. Our worship services are conducted in English, but many other languages are heard in and around the church as worshipers enjoy fellowship with one another. So, no matter who you are, or where you come from, you are welcome to visit us and, once you feel at home, become part of our church family."

Could they have chosen a better Church to visit??
NO-OH!!!
Was the fact that CLASS OF 1974's Sis ELSIE HADDISON WOPE and CAT - Mr. EMMANUEL WOPE were worshiping along with them, a HUGE PLUS???
YES ooooo!
Did the LADIES look BEAUTIFUL and COLORFULLY STUNNING in their UPLAND KONTRI CLOSS(es)????
YOU BET!!!!!
Could they possibly have just "attended" the service PASSIVELY - as in "KACKED" in the pews, then just got up and left??
SAY WETIN????!!! Tsuiiiiiip!

YOU BETTER BELIEVE THEY DID NO SUCH "TING" (as our dear BABA would say!!)
They did exactly what any self-respecting group of SAKERETTES worth their ZÉZÉ would do: THEY SANG!!!!

. DI MA BOLA!
. YABE PETE PENYA!
. SOLI DEO GLORIA!
. WE THANK THEE, LORD (Sung in ENGLISH, DOUALA, KENYANG (wooooooot!!!), METTA, LIMBUM, LAMNSO, MOKPE (woot-woot!!) & ??, as in, Can someone please LISTEN and tell me what that final KONTRI TALK is??)

KUDOS to the Class of '87 "OWELE DIVAS" for being there to celebrate and encourage their "PENYA" MP!!!
Judging by the Peach Fascinator and "COLOR CLOSS" Ma SP has seen in the other pictures sent to her, she's pretty sure our MADAM HONORABLE is the one she has identified, (via RED ARROW ABOVE THE HEAD), in this photo "borrowed" from the CAMEROON NATIONAL ASSEMBLY'S OFFICIAL WEBSITE!
THE CLASS OF 1978 BRIGHTENED TEENS LAUNCH ANNUAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS IN SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE!!!!
(Saturday, June 12th 2021)
The Graduation Ceremony for SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE'S Graduating CLASS OF 2021 took place this past Saturday, June 12th, 2021.
Wasn't there, (physically), to witness it but I am willing to bet that it unfolded in keeping with the pomp, pageantry, and solemnity that the prestigious institution's Graduation Ceremonies have been characterized by, year after year, since the very first one which took place in June of 1966.

That said, it does bear underscoring the fact that one segment of this year's graduation ceremony did set it apart from all the others before it.
I am referring to the segment where two DESERVING students who had been (democratically) VOTED by the students and who stood tall among the first 3 students of their respective classes, became the HAPPY RECIPIENTS of THE CLASS OF 1978 BRIGTEENED TEENS ANNUAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS!!!

The 2 deserving students who exemplified "LEADERSHIP QUALITIES" in FORM 5 and in the UPPERSIXTH FORM not only received a BEAUTIFULLY ADORNED PLAQUE, but also got a CASH PRIZE OF 100,000 CFA FRANCS EACH, to encourage and enable them to further their education!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT A FANTASTIC & ADMIRABLE WAY TO GO RIGHT PAST ALL THE "EMPOWERING THE GIRL CHILD" TALK, (as in, "HOT AIR"), TO CONCRETELY & PALPABLY DOING SOMETHING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!

If this gesture which benefitted:
- NINA CHARLENE LANGSI (FORM 5) and
- MELINA SOFIA EFOSI YEBI (UPPER SIXTH)
were a "ONE TIME" affair, it would still be impressive, given that ANY and EVERY action taken that benefits ANY "Girl Child" at all, is definitely something worthy!
But then, as the word "LAUNCH" in the subject line of this post suggests, the CLASS OF 1978 BRIGHTENED TEENS intend to keep doing this EVERY YEAR, so help them God!!!!
We're talking about an ANNUAL AWARD here!

And then, on top of all that, they say: "We have more surprises on the way this year so stay tuned! Look out for class of '78!"
Coming from the Class that produced the UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE'S DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF EARTH, OCEAN, and ENVIRONMENT who, very recently, became the third woman, and first African-American woman, to receive the prestigious Reginald Fessenden Award from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) in 60 years, I wouldn't doubt their word me oh!
NOT AT ALL!
So, CONGRATULATIONS are certainly in order ...
- For The LAUREATES, NINA & MELINA, (WOW! Their names actually RHYME!!! LOL!) and, of course,
- For the CLASS OF 1978!!!!

OBOSO!!!
CLASS OF 1975  ...
THE DESERVING LAUREATES:

- NINA CHARLENE LANGSI (FORM 5)
